Default stuck throttle(grip)

Several months ago I replaced the grips on my Sportster. There were no problems. A few days ago I removed the top of the piece that holds the throttle(grip) so I could lube the throttle cables. Again no problems.

But when I put the cover back on, the grip tightens up and won't move, or at least 'drags', when I tighten down the cover. Is there a trick to putting the cover back on, that I somehow stumbled on when I changed the grips, that would prevent the throttle(grip) from turning?

Thanks

Is there any chance you "accidentally" tightened the thumb screw on the throttle?

If I were a betting man I'd say you pushed the master cylinder/brake lever mount over and now the throttle is rubbing against the end of the bars... you need a little clearance there. Loosen it all up, push the throttle as far in as it will go and then pull it back about a 1/16th or so.

Or you may have "dislodged the throttle friction brake shoe
(its pretty small)

That's the first thing that crossed my mind because I've done it. The throttle lock screw actually has a small pad between it and the grip, the pad can move off the screw and jam things up.
It's a finesse move to get it back in there right.

Problem solved! I don't know how it happened, but somehow removing the two screws holding the cover on, lifting up the edges enough to squirt some cable lube into the top of the cables, and then retightening the cover somehow changed the setting on the 'thumb screw'. Thanks everyone!

I'm not used to my problems being so simply solved.

Thanks for coming back with the answer. I hate it when some ask questions then never bother to come back with an answer to what the problems were.
