Default Slight Throttle Issue

About a month ago I put on some Kuryakyn ISO grips. Love the grips but I had an issue on the throttle side where it wasn't fully returning. I had removed and reinstalled and everything seemed ok. Today I noticed it's doing the same thing again. Interestingly it returns fine when the bike is started. When it's off it seems to not fully return.

Second issue (and this may not be an issue, just perception) is it seems that wide open throttle takes a lot more twist then when the stock grips were on. I don't mean effort I mean how far I need to twist the throttle.

As always your input is much appreciated

Tried that. It's currently fully loosened. Thanks for the idea though.

You should have a little end play in the grip, so the end of the handlebar dosen't rub on the grip, maybe loosen switch housing and brake lever clamp and slide it a little towards the outside.

Incorrect cable adjustment can also cause binding.

As for the throttle angle, my best guess is the large diameter of the ISO grip requires more hand/wrist travel to move the cable the same distance.

I thought about the diameter as well. I am going to check out cable adjustment. I'll pull air cleaner to get a good view of everything as I'm adjusting this time

I give that a shot. Thanks.

Agreed, cable adjustment is where I'd start.

I'm also running the ISO grips and I've always felt the larger diameter of the grips made the throttle more sensitive, the diameter of the cable channel is larger which gives more cable pull for the amount of throttle grip rotation. At least that's my theory There have been a couple of threads of people installing the ISO's and noticing the same thing; cable adjustment needed to be accurate and the throttle was more sensitive and they had to adapt to it. I like how sensitive the throttle feels compared to the stock grips.

Twospot, I keep my cables adjusted so there's basically zero freeplay at the grip. Be certain the cables are not so tight that they'll be pulled if you move the bars lock to lock.

Two things: if you are too tight on the throttle cable the idle surges when you move the bar lock to lock; if you are too tight on the return/idle cable the throttle sticks or will be sluggish returning to idle.

I had the same set of grips on for 2 years but this year when I took my bike out of storage the throttle was sticky. I lubed the cables and between the grip and handlebar and it was still sticky. I took the throttle tube off and noticed that there were actually small groves wore in the handlebars. I actually had to take some emery cloth to the handlebar to get everything to work right. Why everything was good for 2 years then suddenly changed is beyond me.
