Default replacing rear drive belt question

Have a guy coming over to replace a rear drive belt on a 1986 FXRS Low Rider. Besides the belt can anyone tell me what other parts/fluids/seals will be necessary to have in order to complete the job?

I just have to ask how you are going to accomplish this without knowing what it takes to do the job?

you will need inner and outer primary gaskets and the small tower gasket. Oil for primary. Also a good idea to replace transmission input shaft seal while you have the inner primary off.

replace the inner primary bearing along with the seal, starter shafty seal, motor to inner primary gasket. your outer primary gasket may still be good, oyu can normally use them a couple of times. good time to take a look at the trans mainshaft seal and shifter shaft seals to, if they are not leaking they are good. take a close look at the inner primary bearing race on the mainshaft, if it's galleded or has walked on the shaft now is the time to replace it.

Before you start buying parts, you might want to double check exactly what it is you are working on.

Not sure what you mean. I am replacing a rear drive belt on a 1986 FXRS low rider. I am not doing this myself but having a mechanic come over to do it. I just can't get a hold of him this morning and I am on the way to the shop to get parts needed.

I guess you didn't see that part that says I have someone coming over to do this. I am not replacing this myself.

I'm saying double check your model year and model designation. I'm guessing you either have a 1986 FXR, or you have a newer Dyna.

To your specific question, changing the drive belt involves digging deep into the primary, and on a 30 yo bike I'd replace every seal and gasket while I'm in there.

Since the bike is an '86, you might consider replacing the swingarm bushings while you're in there.
