Exhaust Install Question?

Exhaust Install Question?
Just installed a new V&H big radius 2-2 on my bike.
When I started it up, after flashing it, got some smoke and really
bad smell from the part connected to the engine.
I used the V&H gaskets that came with the kit, but they were thinner than
the ones I removed. Not sure if this would lead to a leak.
Flanges look flush and nuts tight, but wondering if the thinner gaskets are causing a leak, or its just burn-off residual from the new pipes.
Thoughts?
Thx

The new pipes will have some residual oil film on them.
Most of the time, a little smoke and smell is normal for the first few minutes.
You can put your finger up around the exhaust ports (don't touch anything), and can feel if you have an exhaust leak at the port.
You should also be able to hear a leak there also.

Using some type of smoke - like a piece of burnt paper around the exhaust flanges, this will tell you if you have an exhaust leak.
Did you remember to pull the old gaskets out?
You will need to check the bolts on the exhaust flanges often as they like to loosen up.
I don't know about the smoke you saw but the smell might be from the packing around the baffle

I did notice the lip of the pipes was bigger that the ones I toke off, maybe the reason for the smaller gaskets.
I will run it for abit to see if it will wear off. On that note, if it is leaking, will it damage the engine?

Went for a ride after letting idle for about 5 minutes.
Smell still there and did the feel test, but was hard to tell.
I think I felt something, ir could have been the breeze.
I could always get some SE gaskets and install them, just wondering if it would hurt riding it out to the dealer (45 minutes) and let them be the take a look?
But am wondering how the SE seals (being bigger) would let these pipes sit correctly since they have a bigger lip on the flange?
Thx
