Default Exhaust Leak

So, I installed the V&H Pro Pipe. I removed the stock exhaust gaskets and installed the H-D SE gaskets only because I read that others had good luck with them. I should have had someone help me when I was lining up the pipes and flanges into the exhaust ports, but I thought everything was okay because I didn't have any problems getting the nuts threaded onto the studs and it looked like the pipes were seating into the exhaust ports just fine. I tightened everything to spec and in the right sequence according to the service manual, but I think the rear pipe is leaking around the top of the flange because I think I smell exhaust. Also, I used one of those multi-purpose charcoal lighters and the flame gets blown out when held next to the top of the flange. And, I'm getting some moderate decel popping. The front flange is not leaking.

So, I guess my question is what should I do? Do I have to remove the pipes and start over again (ugh!) or will the leak eventually stop? I've read some people stack two gaskets in each port, which I thought about doing, but didn't. Please advise. Thanks!

Losen everything up, line up the pipes into the exhaust ports and tighten again. Shouldn't take very long. Sometimes the c-clips aren't seated right. Double check that too. If same result replace the gaskets and try again.

Yeah, I loosened everything and had a buddy hold the pipes to take the strain off everything, but no joy. I guess I'll take them off and start from scratch. Thanks.

Use the OEM coned type gaskets.
