Guys pretty minor question
I'm removing my V&H big radius 2-1 pipe and doing some cosmetic change to the engine part...
Afterwards i'll put back the pipes...
My question...Can I reuse those exhaust gaskets or everytime I remove the exhaust should I have to replace with a new one?
Some people have had great success reusing them. I prefer to always use new ones. It's relatively cheap and those crush gaskets don't always fit back in the same way.
Ive gone through 3 exoust sets and removed them many times only using the factory original gaskets. 4 years and 98,000 miles. Probably saved enough for a few cases of beer by now. Worked for me.
New gaskets are not that costly. You can probably get away with leaving the old ones in with no problems. The last time I removed my exhaust I just put new ones in for the peace of mind. The pipes had been on and off three times before and didn't leak.
Some do apparently with success, but I always ask 2 questions when thinking about reusing gaskets...
If it does leak how much of a pain will it be to replace them? What is your time worth?
I have had my exhaust off 3 times with the original gaskets and have had no problems. I always take a good look at them before mounting my pipes to see if they have been damaged or compressed into the exhaust port. If all looks good, I run with them.
