Cool New to Harley. Maintenance questions.

Hello all,
I bought a 2011 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200C with heavy breather air filter, and Vance and Hines short shot exhaust late last year and want to do some spring maintenance to get ready for riding season. I changed the engine oil and the filter last weekend, along with cleaning the air filter with the appropriate K&M cleaner and oil. (Forgot to mention, it have about 12,200 miles on it)
Is there any other regular maintenance that needs to be done?

Check tires 360 degrees for cust and abrasions
Check Air pressure tires
Check brake pads front rear inside and out for thickness of pads
Check brake rotors for unusual cuts/gouges
Check transmission oil, may change if so desired it is only a quart
Check Primary oil level, again may change if desired its only a quart
pull and clean the plugs, they should be platinum and good for many more miles
Put a little never seize on the threads when you put plugs back in
Check clutch adjustments at clutch pack and at lever and perch

That ought to keep you busy a little while....

Welcome to the forum. There is plenty more maintenance and checks to be done. Get yourself a service manual from your local dealer or order one online.

Just a reminder; the primary and transmission share a common oil supply on the Sportster.

Welcome bro.

To what others have said, I'd add that next year it would be better to change oils as part of your winterization, particularly if you have much more than say 1000 mi on the engine oil.

I bought my '07 Sporty last summer, it only had 5K miles on it. I bought the service manual and went over it from head to toe. The primary chain needed adjustment. The throttle cables needed lubrication. Clutch needed adjusting. Brake, oil & trans fluids needed changing. I didn't know all this at the start or I would've been a bit overwhelmed. But each week I did something on the bike. About the only thing I haven't done is check/change fork oil. I'm now at 10K. So yes, you probably have some work to do.

Another excellent resource with lots of Harley Sportster how to's is
