Service Timing Question

Service Timing Question
So, you've got a brand new motorcycle and you're thinking about the 1,000 mile first service...
Now, regardless of whether you do the service yourself, get a dealership to do it, got thirty seven free services from the dealer with the purchase, have your uncle Doolittle do it, or even have a trusted indy mechanic do it...
Just how close to 1,000 miles are you when you get it done? Do you get it exactly to 1000.0 and then trailer it to the maintenance? Do you know your dealership has a week lead time on appointments and make the schedule at 900 miles? Do you worry about going over 1,000? Over 1,100? Over 7,000?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Don't over think it. First reasonable opportunity from 900 miles on. If it happens to go a little over 1,000 I wouldn't worry about it. It ain't rocket science.
I won't recommend anybody do what I do though, since I am a little OCD about flushing out the oil system on a new bike. When mine was new I changed the oil and filter at 100 and 500 miles myself, (dino oil) then took it to the dealer at around 1100 miles for the full 1,000 mile service with synthetic. Overkill and a waste of money probably, but I can afford it and it gives me a little peace of mind.
I've done all the services since and put 130,000 miles on the bike with zero internal engine problems, so it certainly didn't hurt anything. I did put in gear drive cams at 57,000 miles when inspection showed a lot of wear on the plastic shoes.

alcohol fueled discussion locally produced a wider range of opinions than I expected. Even a pair of opposed, and vehement, personal preferences.
