Default Fat Bob or Night Rod?

Thanks - I'm about to buy a bike. I could use some opinions - pros/cons.

Here are a few things about me which may help you form a perspective.

My vision is to enjoy rides into the mountains and maybe drive long distances (a cross country ride is a dream of mine). I'd also like to ride with groups of people. I'm 50 years old and have some dirt bike experience (70s) - three weeks in 1982 on a street bike. I'm 6 feet tall, about 230 pounds. I don't see myself ever racing or riding with crotch rocket riders. I think I appreciate a smooth ride, comfortable seating position, power to spare, good handling and responsiveness.

The Night rod seems to be a crotch rocket/cruiser hybrid. For me it's got a long reach - not sure how comfortable that would be for distances but I'm captivated with it. The look is awesome... I'm told resale value on Night Rods is pretty bad...

The Fat Bob also has a look I like and a better feel.

The stock seat on the Fat Bob looks good, and more importantly, is really comfortable. Something to consider for your longer trips. I got mine w/ forward controls and am quite happy with handling, and comfort level on this bike.

I think the Night Rods are beautiful. . . but I'm 52, 5'11.5" and 225 and I decided on the Fat Bob. I find it very exciting to ride, and very comfortable to ride. I have never ridden a Night Rod though I sat on one, and it didn't feel as "right" for me.

I think you already answered your question. You like the looks of both but one of them feels better!!It shouldn't be too hard to figureout.

See if you can find a dealer with both in stock - or a rental fleet - and take each for a spin. At least one local dealer here has a rental fleet that, for $75/day, you can try up to three models.

Good for you. I live in the mountains too and have had and have riden the smaller frames. They're not the most comfortable if you are taking extended rides. NOW IS THERIGHT TIME TO BUY - LOTTA GOOD DEALS PRIVATELY ON NEWER, LOW MILEAGE SCOOTERS! I'd look for a used street glide if youhaven't already made up your mind.

If you want to do any touring/long rides, go with the fatbob. The Night rod, and all other V-rods are horribly painful to ride for more than a couple of hours...

I would expect the liquid cooled engine to be better for idling in traffic on a hot day. Cruising the main drag with a bunch of teenagers isn't too likely with most Harley riders, but commuting to work in heavily congested traffic is a bit more common.
