I'm getting mixed answers on wether or not to put synthetic or stick to regular Harley oil for my bike. I'm wondering what you guys use and think?

 

There is about a million posts on this subject so read till your eyes fall out then put in synth (whatever brand turns your crank). Synthetic is better in all ways than dino oil so to me it's a no brainer but it's your bike so do what you like.

 

Syn "motorcycle" is better. The above post is 100% correct.

 

I'd use either synthetic or dino or synthetic blend. Hope that helps.

 

What about during break-in?

I change my oil every other month in the summer time. I like synthetic oil because of the heat it's not going to brake down like dino oil will. Summer we put alot of miles on the bikes. I will change other people oil with dino oil it is so burn when it comes out. The synthetic oil will come out cleaner and not burn.

 

The above posts claiming synthetic is better are correct. Your engine will run cooler, longer and with fewer repairs. There are many on this forum than may not agree with that but those are the facts. You can run synthetic from day 1 in all 3 holes. I also recommend 75 - 90 synthetic gear oil in the tranny. Amsiol and Mobil 1 are my picks for the top 2 in that order.

 

The other day a new ride was using mobil 1 oil and want to know why his bike knocking so bad. It's your choice. But I do like the gear oil in the trans.

 

I use synthetic in all 3 holes. Wait till the 1,000 mile oil change before switching.
