Was reading the November 2008 issue of American Irona and came across a blip about the 110 CVO engine. Apperently it has serious overheating issues and blows a gasket over 2000 miles.

The CVO 110

HD is currently having big problems keeping the cvo 110 from overheating. The rear head gasket is blowing out, away from the oil return hole located between the cylinder and head. This is occuring after as little as 2000 miles of use. It is my belief that Harley had issues during the development of the CVO 110 because the engines compression ratio is low: a paltry 9.3:1. The stock TC 96 twin cam has a respectable compression ratio of 9.2:1, which is okay for a stock model. The TC 96 increases it's ratio by .4 points, up from the TC 88's ratio of 8.8:1. In a perfect world, the 110" engine needs a minimum ratio of 10:1 and prefebly 10.5:1. Reduced compression ratios lower cylinder head temperatures and the probability of detonation. The addition of an oil cooler would assist in lowering the cylinder head temperatures, as well as control the devastating effects of ongoing detonation.


Anyone got the CVO 110 and are having issues? Did and oil cooler help out?

 

I thought the CVO twins had an oil cooler standard.

 

No idea man, that is exactly what was inside the magazine. Im curious if Harley is going to correct this problem for all new CVO models from now on?

 

I think the cvo 110" bikes have had this problem since day one. Haven't heard anything bad so far about the 110" kit though.

not one oil leak on my 110" and I have not had the rework done yet either. I purchased and installed the new pipes, air filter, and fuel processor at about 300 miles. Dyno tuned at the same time, don't know if it runs any cooler now or not. I recently purchased the Milwaukee twins a frame oil cooler, but I have not installed it yet as the weather is cooling off here now, so I am waiting on it to get cold so I can call it a winter project.

 

If you could squeeze a CVO 110, you'd get lemonade.

 

My search is not working. I type in cvo 110 and it's not coming up with any results, is there something I am missing or doing wrong?

I've got an 07 FXDSE and now have 15000 miles. I put on V&H Big Radius pipes and FuelPak when I bought the bike. Not a leak....yet. It does seem to run a little cooler than stock. I am considering a Jagg chrome oil cooler though
