Attaching patches on leather vest?
I have not been able to find anyone local to sew patches on leather. My wife says there is a "glue" out there that works as good as sewing, but she dosn't know what it is called. Anyone know what she is talking about (I never do)?
Thanks,
Doug

I'm not sure about a glue that's supposed to hold it on all by itself, but there is a spray glue that's used to hold them in place so you can sew them on. I have used this glue myself, but I find that using the right type of pins works just as good. Yes, I am a dude that knows how to sew, my WIFE taught me how and I'm proud to say that I've sewn all of my own patches and even some for some fellow riders. I'm so damn talented, it hurts.

Try a boot repair shop.
Over the years I'v tried the glues for various things. They peel off soon.

I've done a few patches by hand myself and its a pain in the butt.

Good quality 100% polyester sewing thread. Avoid cotton or cotton-blend threads-the chemicals used in the tanning process may cause them to rot.
Rubber cement available at stationery stores) or two-sided adhesive leather tape available from tailor's supply shops) to secure seams and hems, and to temporarily hold pieces in position. Pinning leather will leave permanent holes in the skin.

go to Lowes or Home Depot, in the paint section. There are spray cans of adhesive. Duro is one that comes to mind. Liberally spray the back of the patch and let tack, then apply where you want it. I do suggest sewing to keep edges from lifting. Go to a shoe repair place and they will sew if no one else will.

All the large Harley dealers can direct you to the person that sews the patches on for the local HOG chapter. In Portland, OR the gal is at the dealer, Latus Motors, and you just drop it off and she handles the rest. It is the way to go, don't use the glue, the sewing job is very professional and you will not be disappointed.
I suppose any local tailoring place can direct you to someone who sews leather. Almost all leather shops who sell biker jackets have someone on staff and the equipment to modify and alter leather jackets to fit. They do patches also. Love Leathers in Vancouver WA is one of those.

Go to a Tandy Leather store and buy a can of Barge cement. It is used to make leather gear etc. I use it when I make chaps. The glue will work for a while but the edges will roll and it will eventually fall off. Go to a flea market and buy a cheap sewing machine and teach yourself to sew. It is easy and fun... thrill your friends.
