500 miles! Change oil?
|
Ok bought my new 2012 Fatboy lo last year in the middle of august. Only got to ride it here and there and put 516 miles on it buy october then parked it. I keep it inside my house in my man cave so its in a heated room all year round. before i take it for a ride this year should i change im thinking of changing the oil since it sat for 7 months with 500 miles of break in oil just sitting in it! Normally in all the other bikes ive owned i bought them in like March or april and had 1,000 miles on them with in a month or two and just took them in to the dealer for the 1,000k service. But this time since i bought it later in the year rode it and then parked it should i change the oil before i start it back up? Just looking for different opinions in my mind i think i should and probably going to do it no matter what. just curious! Oh and i think im going to use Moble 1 V twin..

I'd run it another 500 & then change for the 1K service...

If the bike had been sitting for over a year, I'd probably say to change it. But I wouldn't worry about it until your 1000 mile service. I'm getting my 2007 scoot on Tuesday. It has 1350 miles on it but it's been sitting for the better part of two years. I'll be dumping all the fluids and changing them. Not to mention a dose of Sea Foam.

Like others said, wait till the 1000 mile mark then change it. Then I'd run that till the 5000 mile mark, then change every 5000 after that since you're changing to synthetic.

Id wait until 1K. The chances of your engine having any damage from oil issues if changed every couple thousand miles are nil. I know a guy who changes his oil every 10K (he swears synthetic allows this) and is running strong with over 50,000 miles.

Follow the maintenance schedule in your owners manual.

It's completely ruined. I'll give you a grand for it. Even pay for shipping.

If you decide not to change it make sure you take it out long enough to burn off all the condensation build up
