Default 76 Shovelhead

Anyone ever have trouble with oil coming out of rear chain oiler or the crankcase vent line? Have a 76 shovel.

Started after sitting thru winter. Also had a sucking sound, but got rid of that when I cleaned the lifters

The hose is actually a vent for the crankcase, which I learned a couple of years ago not to plug off because you blow seals, lol

Oil drained from the tank past the check ball into the crankcase. When you started it up it blew the oil in the cases out the vent. The sucking sound when you first started kicking it over was the excess oil in the cases.

As far as the chain oiler, just adjust it so it doesn't work, or remove the line and plug the fitting. Much better to run an o-ring chain and/or spray with some good chain lube rather than use engine oil on it.

Man, this takes me back many years!

I had a '76 FXE, and if I remember correctly I installed an O-Ring chain and blocked the oiler off.
On the breather issue, we used to run them up near the carb and secure them with a tie strap and install one of those tiny air filters in the line.

Turn off the chain oiler and run the vent line down below the frame. The oil came out the vent as a result of sitting over the winter as pococj posted.
