1974 Bicentennial Sportster - What Would You Pay?
EDIT: Title typo - it's a '76.
I have a lead on a '76 Bicentennial Edition Ironhead with 4000 miles. Barn fresh, hasn't been run in 15 years. Haven't seen it yet. Owner says it could use some polishing. Obviously it would need tires and a tune up to run but it's 100% original. Price is 1500 bucks. What would you pay?

sounds about rite if its all there and in ok condition.. if its missing parts or the paint and finish is thrashed, i would offer less. the model really doesn't mean much.. its just an old ironhead sporty. miles sound good, but could still need overhauled after sitting? its a safer gamble.

I'm thinking that you've made a typo ... 1974 Bicentennial ? How about a 1976 model? I loved the 1976 XLCH that I had and put many trouble free miles on it ( maintenance is a must ) ... as far as what one would be worth ... I don't think that the Bicentennial thing would really have any bearing on value ... however $1500.00 sounds like it would be fun to pick it up and have a TT ( Tavern to Tavern? ) scooter.

Bicentennials were 1976 not 1974.

Sorry guys, it's a '76 - typo! For the right price it I figure it would be a nice restoration project and a good start to a nice running collection once it was road worthy. If I ever need to sell it I was hoping to at least buy it cheap enough get my money back after cleaning it up. I'm going to take a look at it this afternoon, I'll post some photos.

I would say if it's all in tact and the finish isn't too bad and the engine turns over....$1,500 is a fair price, but I would offer less and see if they take it.
It's going to need some major attention after sitting that long..

best thing ever to happen to a sportster was the 5 speed tranny.
never would go back to a four speed
