Default Wrist surgery

Doctor says I need surgery on my right wrist. He wants to take a bone or two out and fuse some others together. Says I will loose 50% mobility and an unknown amount of grip strength Anyone else have this done. How did it affect your riding. Not sure if I want to have it done or not.

I've never had it done but why did he say that you needed it? Personally, I'd ask him about how it'd effect your riding and see what he said.

I had a friend who had it done and still rode a dirt bike pretty well.

If you can live with it now and still ride . leave it alone. doctors love to cut. Get a rubber ball or hand grips and exercise. Good luck

apparently I ruptured the ligament that holds two bones together years ago. now the bones are misaligned and rubbing together causing my wrist to lock up when Im using my hand, and causing arthritis which he says is going to get worse. The waiting time for the operation is 14 months. So I have time to make a decision.

I had a surgeon recommend cervical spinal fusion about 7 years ago. All scheduled to go when a friend talked me into getting a second opinion. I thought it was a waste of time but went anyway.

The second surgeon recommended against it. Long story short I didn't get the surgery and most of my neck issues have resolved on their own.

I also have a friend who had a motorcycle accident about 10 years ago. Broke his lower leg in so many places they said it had to be amputated. His wife raised holy hell and made him go for a second opinion. Today he is still walking on the leg that one doctor was getting ready to cut off.

Not saying you don't need surgery but it may be worth getting a second opinion.

Get a second opinion!

Last July I had ulnocarpal abutment surgery, and my wrist is jacked!

http://www.eatonhand.com/img/img00072.htm <<<Graphic Link!!

Lost about 50% motion & strength. My wrist now bends about an inch further back than before surgery.

My job has been affected to a point I may lose it. I have more pain now than before. Too much bad to get into. I've not ridden since the surg (being in a cast & winter now) but I know it's gonna be a lot different.

Dunno if it was really worth it.

That is a differant operation than my surgeon wants to preform but I can appreciate what your saying. I hope things improve for you and you can get back to riding in the spring. Think Im going to get a second opinion.

It's going to get worse but you have to wait 14 months to get the surgery?
