Default Big Bore Kit question

Is it cheaper to just buy pistons, rings and have your cylinders bored, rather than by a kit?

I bought a set of stock jugs off craigslist...

For $40.00, which I thought was a good deal. I only had the jugs honed out another +0.005" to fit over sized pistons. That cost $100 alone. But all in all, I saved on the overall job.

There's a LOT more to it than just making the hole bigger ... but yes you can and would be cheaper but not necessarily better ... Do some reading and search the Forum on this subject ... You'll learn a lot ... "prodrag1320" and "Hillside" are 2 good choices to search. Good Luck.

I had my cylinders bored and bought the pistons on the recommendation of the builder.

I am new to the forum. I have started building big bore kits available in many options. If I can help let me know!

I went that route and after everything was said and done it was close to the same cost. Actually I saved a little bit of money on not springing for shipping costs.

I was curious; figured it was worth asking. I think I would go with the kit then. Probably waist to get all the parts in one shot.

I have an 88 right now, thinking of going up to 98. Cams and heads too.
