Hey everybody I'm new to Harley's. I just got 77 ironhead this week and would like to know the largest model tank I can easily put on it. Would a fat bob tank work?

Sportster tanks commonly go up to 3.3 gallons-I'm not a sporty owner,so I can't tell you what will fit. But I'd start by looking on cl or ebay for "3.3 Sportster fuel tank".
Hopefully somebody will come along with a little more advice.

 

I already have a three and a half. I'm hoping I can put a 5 gallon on it. Like a fat bob tank maybe

 

This link is a place that sells all sorts of things but they sell tanks as well, I bought my 3.3 king tank from them, I would suggest looking through their inventory and if you find a tank you can always contact them and ask if it will fit your specific model, there very knowledgeable when it comes to Sportsters.
