Default Advise/suggestions?

Need to do something about pitting on front forks of an older Ultra. Went the swap out to chrome front for Vrod a few years back but with one in college, doing so for the Ultra is out. Easy way to "resurface" while still on the bike?

1000 grit sandpaper, bucket of soapy water.Wet sand them evenly till as smooth as you can. Then go to Autozone and get some aluminum polish. Some old rags to polish with, and plenty of elbow grease.
You can also buy small buffing wheels to mount on an electric drill, try not to splatter the polish around too much though. Last step is some plain old automotive polish, and or wax.

Faced that on an '88 Heritage that spent its life in the coastal city of San Diego, Ca. I started with 400, then 600, then 1000. I use Mother's aluminum polish.

And if you are going to keep the legs on the bike, in order to have access to the entire slider, jack the front end up and remove the front wheel. That way you can definitley get at the entire surface.

Taking the front tire off would be easier. I used the 1000, then polished. Took a while on one side. Can see where I need to tough up some areas. Plan on the second another evening this week. Thanks for the advise.

Steel wool will take a lot of the surface rust off.

I hope there's not any rust on his aluminum legs.

If your going to use steel wool, don't use dish cleaning products. Use 0000 steel wool for polishing.

I just did the legs on my 02 road king, I just bought it in march and they were bad. Lightly sand and then polish. I used a few on tooth brush'es. Took a few hours for each side. But they look almost new. Also did the back rim, the guy before me must have never cleaned it. Once a got started on the rim I knew why he never did it. It's Pain in the but when on the bike.
