Question Do pipes get louder over time ?

The stock pipes on my 2012 WG -"tommy gun" 2-1-2's were mouse quiet - as far as Harley's go- until I had a few thousand on her, then it seemed to me they got louder, is that possible ? Maybe after running at 3/4 throttle could something change ?

They do when the baffles fall out

My SE exhaust system gets louder over time as the fiberglass packing gets eroded away. Unfortunately, that nice low, rumbly tone goes away along with the packing.

My Vance and Hines seem to of gotten louder overtime. Maybe I'm just getting too old, any case I still like the way it sounds

ONLY pipes that have fiberglass in them will get louder. Period

OR

If you bore out your engine, it might be louder due to the added compression of the motor.

My pipes have steel baffles only. they were loud from day one. Theyre absurd with no baffles.

I've heard they do but I don't know how. Maybe they'll be a 5 year study on it.

I agree. My V&H Monster Rounds have been on for almost 3 years and while I've noticed a little increase in loudness, the people I ride with have noticed it more.

My 2 into 1 V&H Pro Pipe got louder after I changed cams. And louder still after Dr. Dyno drilled 2 holes in the baffle to insert the probes for dyno tune... but I still like the sound...

On both my 2011, and now my 2014, the stock pipes were whisper quiet new, but have gotten louder as time has gone one. Both seem to have gotten louder right around 1200 miles or so. They won't get much louder though, without some changes being made.
