Do pipes get louder over time ?

OK so now I guess the answer is maybe. - Matt at Fish City Cycles told me I could remove packing to make them louder which I'm assuming means my pipes have glass in them.

removing the packing and what not decreases your back pressure, therefore reducing your torque. If you want louder, get different pipes and a tune or get different baffles.
Baffleless is cool for a short period of time. I can imagine starting my bike in the back of where I live and having the sound bounce off every house pissing everyone off.

Yes, I have done the 5 year study and all pipes get louder over time. You have to understand that most of the people on this site do not keep their bikes long enough to observe this. Also the first thing to be changed on a new bike will be the pipes. I have had Hundreds (yes hundreds) of people ask me what pipes I am running, that it is the perfect sound they have been looking for. I tell them stock but the pipes are 14 years old. something to think about.

I have to agree that pipes get louder over time. Hot exhaust gases will erode steel as well as well as fiberglass packing. My pipes are going on 5 years old and I've noticed an increase in noise even at low throttle.
