Default Sturgis tire vendors

Don't want to change out my rear tire before Sturgis and throw away 1500 miles of rubber. I'll need new rubber before I head home from Sturgis.

My question do the vendors attending Sturgis cut you a fair deal or will I get raped like when I go to a stealer.

In my 8 trips to Sturgis I've never bothered to check out the tire vendors perhaps I should have.

Ive been going to Sturgis since 97 and always got very good deals on all types of things from brakes to Corbin seats to shocks and even a couple of very scenic bike washes. The best thing is lots to do while your bike is getting worked on.

Go to one of those burn-out contests. They have guys there that can replace a tire in like 2 minutes. Don't know what they charge but its fast!

A few years ago I was there and had a tire problem. I went into J&P to get a new rear tire. I told them: "I'll be selling this bike soon, I don't need anything fancy like a Metzler or an Avon." The guy looked at me with a straight face and said "Metzler and Avon is all we sell here at the rally."

You can get a fair deal. I had a tire put on at 3 Corners just outside of Hill City one year.

The good deals are at the rally not at the dealers. When I was there I saw tire and wheel dealers mounting for free.

Just be careful. That 1500 miles of rubber goes faster than you think. It puts the metal belts closer to the friction, heating them up faster than normal softening the rubber more. We had a guy with us last year that thought the same thing and with 200 miles to go he had about 2 inches of metal showing. Had to transfer all of his weight to other bikes. If it were me, I would have it changed out before leaving and not worry about it or wasting time at the rally looking for a deal.

You know you're due for a new tire, but you're gonna hop on and ride 1500 miles on it? Then you're gonna have it replaced,by somebody that has to do like maybe 100 tires in one day?

Let me say this ... the tire in question has about 3.5k on it... I usually get about 5.5k - 6k out of a rear tire. So in theory I should be able to get there and back which is 1.5k round trip if I don't do any sight seeing... I don't mind getting a tire while on the road Lord knows I've done that several times... Flagstaff, Billings, and Cody

My question - fair price from Sturgis vendors ? That all I want to know...
