Squeaking could be the result of metal rubbing metal. Might be a bearing going bad.

Sound like a loose belt to me. Mine does it when cold and stops after a couple miles.

Since it does not happen under load I tend to lean towards your belt or primary chain because they both get slack when not under load...

I pulled outer primary cover last night to check chain tension. Didn't have time to mess with last night but it definitely looked loose. I will keep you posted on what I come up with on mine. Should have it on the road by Saturday

Just to follow up on mine in case anyone else is trying to diagnose similar noise in the future. My 09 heritage classic had same noise. After looking inside primary and finding nothing irregular I decided to replace the front wheel bearings before going any further inside engine. One of the front wheel bearings was in fact the source of the noise. Had them replaced for under $100 parts and labor. I removed the tire and took to a shop. Anyhow, party on

I've got a 2000 Road King Classic. I can often hear a "chirp" when I ride along side a Jersey Barrier on the highway. I suspect the chirp is always there, but I only hear it when there is something to bounce the sound back at me. The bike has had Rinehart True Duals on it for 10 years, and I thought the sound was coming from the rubber rear mounting bushings, but lubing those up didn't help. So I tried Teflon spray on the drive belt and rear pulley. That fixed it. However, it wears off after a few hundred miles and the squeak returns. Knowing what it is, I just live with it.
