If I weren't going with a Baker, second choice would be Primo-Rivera

Yup - that's where we need to start! A 7-speed won't fit a 5-speed and there are direct-drive and overdrive 6-speeds available. I have a Baker DD6 in my old Evo.

if i bought either of those transmissions i would disassemble and install better bearings and a baker shift drum along with baker shifter pawl assembly, or just buy a baker.
