07 EG Sometimes starts, sometimes quits
My 07 EG with 80,000 miles on it was running fine up to a couple of weeks ago. Then one day, it wouldn't start - it would crank but not start. Tries it again a few minutes later, it started. Rode it about 20 miles, twisted the throttle, and it died only to have a hard time starting again.
I replaced the battery and both spark plugs and it started once then quit. I've seen other posts about the crank position sensor, stator, or possibly the coil.
I could use some help in narrowing it down to the one that is causing the trouble or something else.
Thanks!

That's actually my next step. I bought the EG with 60,000 on it and I put on 20,000 in a little over one year. I've never replaced the fuel filter and I don't know if the p.o. ever did either. I plan on doing that this week and see if it helps. Funny thing is that it started just fine this morning, rode it about 5 miles, no problems.

They fail around your mileage. The replacement part is better, about $60.

Sorry guys and gals for taking so long to update the problem with my big girl. I towed it to an indie who couldn't figure out the problem. He had me tow it to a dealer for the diagnostic and then wanted me to bring it back to him to "fix" it. The dealer found it was a bad plug wire to the front cylinder so both wires were replaced with Screaming Eagles and the girl is giving me better performance and mpg all covered under the $297.00 diagnostic charge (parts and labor).
I personally replaced the fuel filter and I cut the old one with a grinder just to see what it looked like. This is the fuel filter at 82,000 miles! I am sure the previous owner never had it changed it is a miracle that I rode 20,000 more miles on it.
