Bike won't hold a charge
i have an 07 sportster with 1300 miles on it. 2 months old. the battery has gone dead twice. i charged it and then it would die a few days later. Some times, when starting, the yellow engine light would not come on. Itook it into the dealership and they just looked at it and told me there is nothing wrong with it. now they want me to leave it there for a few days to see what happens. WTF? Any advise?

RE: Bike won't hold a charge
My nieghbors '06 Sporty did the same thing! His battery was dead in the water before his first service.. at 860 miles on the odo! What really bit the big one was when we loaded it up in my trailer and took it to the stealer, they just said.. "Yup, it's dead... sorry 'bout yer luck~ You shoulda got a battery tender with it".. and then charged him for another battery! Great customer service... [>:]

RE: Bike won't hold a charge
harley batteries should have a warranty for at least 6 months if not a year.
easiest way to check your charging sys is to put a meter on the batt, and run the bike. if it doesn't top out voltage wise at 14.5-15 VDC when you rev it up, your charging sys is bad, if it does, the batt is shot.

If you have the Siren Mk11 on it with the inbuilt pager transmitter then this continues to transmit on a regular basis which in turn will take the battery down. I have a Mk1 system with the pager system added on and found that after a while the battery was low. It only occured to me when I set the alarm with my helmet still on and plugged into the Autocom helmet intercom unit I heared a faint beep beep beep which was the pager transmitter. This occured quite frequently over 10 minutes of listening. Ever since I have used a battery tender when parked up and the battery has been fine
