Which Ignition Tuner for 00 Carbed Dyna?
Hi all,
I'm having trouble deciding what type of ignition improvements and choices I have for my TC-88 2000 Dyna WG and which you would recommend.
This is a carb'ed street bike and I have mod'ed the drivetrain quite a bit. Ignition is the only thing not touched.
A partial list of changes made this past winter include 98" jugs and CP flathead pistons with 9.8 cr, gear driven Andrews 37G cams, a Mikuni HSR-42 carb, a mild head job (porting of original heads and replacement of valves and guides while retaining stock springs), and a VH 2-1 Propipe exhaust.
Generally it runs great and has a lot of power. 91 hp, 103 ftlb. 5k miles after these changes, the only problem or concern I have noticed is some detonation under load when using a lot of wrist under 2,200 RPM. The best grade fuel we have from common suppliers in my area is 92 octane. I think that a different advance curve might solve this and perhaps add a few ponies as well. The dyno tuner noted that the bike was still building hp right up to the stock redline as well.
Are the HD units any good? How about the Dynotek TC-88-2P? Is their programming kit worthwile for a street bike?
What do you think?

I like the Crane HI-4. Better low rpm spark delivery, cylinder offset, very easy to use and dependable

I just put one of these in my 05 Low Rider and love it. I called them direct and they sold it to me for $320.00 including shipping. I believe they actually call it a Fireball, but Crane Cams makes it.
