Default Battery tender (unplug from the wall?)

Just curious for those of you that use a battery tender. Do you always unplug it from the wall prior to connecting and disconnecting as the directions state? Or do you just leave it plugged into the wall and connect it to the pigtail?

I generally disconnect first. I have hot-plugged it in the past and I find it sometimes comes up in an odd charge state. If that happens, unplug and re-plug and all is well.

I almost never have it unplugged at the wall so it is live when I attach it to the bike. Never had a problem as a result.

Never unplug. Never a problem.
