In a TC 96 they like a 10.0 to 10.5 to 1 mechanical compression. Also they have an intake closure of 44 degrees which produces a nice broad power band.

So 103 with 10.5-1, no pinging? And how do these compare to woods tw-6? (sorry Ian asking all these questions, think I found a nice 103 setup, might need a different cam though, hence the inquiry

I've had my Stage IV 103 ci for over a year. Initially, it came with an SE-260 cam. I replaced the SE-260 with the TR-590 for more low and mid-rpm torque. That's exactly what it did, without giving up that much above 5000 rpm either. Its a great overall cam.

Ping????? Never a ping with either of the cams. I always run 93 octane. Or 91 when I can't get 93. The ONLY time this engine has ever pinged was when I went from the SERT to a ThunderMax with Autotune. The original map I loaded caused pinging. So, I backed down the timing just a bit and rode it for a few hundred miles to give the tuner time to self-tune. No pinging anymore/anywhere.

I see you have the PCV autotune. You'll not have pinging issues either if you use the capabilities of the tuner.

I now have the TR-625 cam. I like trying different cams. That's why I have the TR-590 as spare. I'm preparing to go to a 107 ci during the winter. I'll be using the TR-625 with that engine.

The TW-6 and TR-590 compare very closely. But your 103 build with a 10.5 mechanical CR will like the TR-590 more...all other things being equal. The TR-590 cam will make the corrected CR slighly less than the TW-6. That's due to the TR cam having a slightly later closure of the intake valve (4 degrees). With the TR cam having greater lift, greater duration and slightly more overlap, the TR cam will have greater mid and high range power than the TW-6.

I'd like to add that a poor exhaust system will negate all of what I said. To get the most out of this setup, I highly recommend a 2 into 1 system like the D&D Fat Cat/Boss.

I had a Tman 590 in my 103 at 10.5 and my 120 at 10.8. No pinging with a good tune.
