Custom Bobber Handling
Hi,
I just finished art directing a great builder (Anatol Egbuna in Reinbek Germany) who did a custom bobber (enclosed) based on a Sportster donor. The new springer forks were limited to German TUV rules and I ended up with the standard 30 degree rake because of no frame changes but only 22 degrees of handlebar swing instead of the stock Nightster 30 degrees. It's a bit scary at low speeds because I'm used to the big swing of a BMW 1200GS and other similar stock bikes. It feels like the turning radius is huge unless I really lean in (which tightens the turning radius). I haven't dropped it but it feels like I have to plan turns way in advance and it's scary. I assume that big chopper rake angles have a similar issue. Any advice on how to manage this (other than practicing a lot)? Is a 22 degree handle bar swing a huge problem or is this manageable?
Peter
