how do you check transmission fluid level?

07 ultra 96"........checked tranny fluid....it's at the ADD mark.......how much can I expect to add? (seems to be clanking when shifting)
Also, from what I know, it's never been changed from the factory, 13 K miles......any advice on what kind of oil I should put in?
leaving on a trip this weekend(400+/-) miles and planning to change it out the following week, but would like to top it off till then.
Read a lot of posts about what kind people use.......Mobil 1 20W-50 is good? I can't find that weight, but the local AP store has 15W-20.....is that okay till the change?

i use mobil one 75-90 gear lube in tranny and 20-50 mobil one for engine
