Hi,does anyone know if the drain plug on the primary is, a Torx or Allen Key and what size is it.I don't have a jack yet and can't see under the engine,but both seem to fit,I just don't want to strip it.Thanks.

You didn't specify which bike, but I'm going to disagree with Scout.
I think the size is a standard 1/4" allen or a 5/8" socket. At least that what it is on my bike.

Primary on a 01 TC88. In 99 the plugs for the tranny and oil pan were 3/4", and later they went to 5/8". The primary drain as far as I know has always been a 30. The Primary chain inspection cover is 27 torx, same as the clutch basket inspection cover. I may be wrong, just going by the Dyna and the TC88's.

Thanks guys,I tried the T30 and it seems a little sloppy so I tried a T40 and it seems to fit better but the last time I had it serviced was by the dealer and they must of really torqued it.I'm doing my own oil changes now and the primary is the only spot I haven't done yet.I ride a 2003 Lowrider and never torque drain plugs.I just hand tighten them and have never had any problems with leaks or torn o-rings.It's just too easy to strip these things,I'd sooner just spend a few moments after a couple of rides and make sure everything is tight.I have the service manual and even it doesn't tell you what size the primary drain plug is.H.D. doesn't want you to do anything on your own LOL.

This is what's used on my '03 Softail FatBoy;

(Also, these are slightly tapered, and you can't torque them down with too much force. If so you can strip the threads, or even end up with the plug inside the case. They recommend seating them until there is approximately 1/16" of the plug sticking out from the case).

The 2007 touring models use a 5/8 socket or a 1/4" alen head on the primary, so it is now the same as the transmission and engine oil drain plugs..

primary drain screws changed a lot, but has NEVER BEEN A T30!!!

first was a 3/4 hex head, then a T40, then a 3/16 allen, and now the standard 5/8 hex/ 1/4 allen

P.S. the pic you show of a drain plug says 3/16 allen, but if you look at it, its a torx.........LOL, where did you fish that pic from??

Just drained mine yesterday.
2005 FXDWG = Torx T-40
Put teflon tape on the threads before reinstalling
No O-ring on this one.
