TC88 vs. TC 96 FLH Derby Cover Changeability
Need some help. I am in the process of resurecting a 99 TC88 motor. I need a new Derby Cover.
I located an 08 TC96 derby cover, assumed it would work. After I got home I realized HD has changed the cover. The TC96 derby cover is not smoth on the inside face like the 88 one, it has a grove with a semi-permanent o-ring built in the cover. Will this new style 0-ring seal work with my TC88 primary cover which already has a groove in it? Thanks, Jeff

RE: TC88 vs. TC 96 FLH Derby Cover Changeability
The o-ring on the 08 cover has to contact the flat chrome recessed face lip (the lip is about 1")of the 08 outer primary cover when you bolt it on for it to seal. If the diameter of the opening on the 99 case is larger than the diameter of the o-ring then the o-ring won't seat against the face of the lip on theouter primary cover and it will leak like crazy. The o-ring has to have a clean flat surface to sit against to seal correctly. Plus the bolt holes have to line up as well.
