Default cover replacement s

I am looking to swap out the derby cover, primary inspection cover, and timer cover. Are any of these more than just unscrewing one and putting on the new one?

I have only done the derby cover but it was a piece of cake. The "custom" derby covers use the old style gasket so you will need to buy one of those with the cover.

Almost forgot. Lean the bike over to the right on a milk crate or something when doing the derby so you don't lose any oil. Or maybe a good time to change it.

I would also torque them to the specified torque and apply the torque in a star pattern as specified by the manual. More than one HD primary seeps oil on the derby because it was warped by improper torquing.

Also when you get it off, go to Ace Hardward and get chrome allen head bolts and washers and throw the junk torx bolts away. Makes changing the primary oil a whole lot easier the next time.

if its not overfilled, you shouldn't lose any oil doing it on the jiffystand. if it is overfilled, well, you needed to drain some anyways

if you are lucky, your derby gasket will stay attached to the outer primary cover. make sure you have a T27 (dont use the T25, i think this is the #1 oops moment)
maybe give the bolts a little love tap with a center punch before you break them loose(if you don't have an impact driver).if they dont want to break loose somewhat easy, try the old soldering iron/heat gimmick. 5 minute job for most. dremmel tool/drill and ez-out job for some.
