Default Inner Primary seal leak

Ok heres the deal. I have a 1986 FLT tour glide. I have converted it from chain to belt primary. Now for the 3rd time its leaking trans fluid out the inner primary seal. The last time I had it fixed at Harley before I took it in it was making a chirping sound and would quit as soon as you would pull in the clutch. Then the leak was only a small one. I told service and they claimed it was a combination of the drive belt and a slow leak in the tire making that noise. even though I did not believe them on the noise they fixed the leak and when I went for a ride the noise was gone. Since september I havent rode much just a couple of times and when the Temp went from 50 to 20 degrees I noticed under the bike a major puddle of trans oil. Now either they did not fix the seal correctly or I am wondering if there is something wrong with that bearing that might be causeing the seal to go out. Because after riding about 150 miles the noise came back. Any ideas I only have so much hair on my head left.

Assuming you meant you saw primary fluid.

I can't see how an intact bearing could effect the seal since there's a snap ring between the bearing and the seal. I think it would take a fairly catastrophic and obvious bearing failure to cause this leak.

Perhaps the surface against which the outer surface of the inner primary seal seats has a defect through which fluid is leaking.

Maybe the inner race--upon which the inner primary seal seats--is scarred or has walked out of position.

As to the noise? Beats me.

Are you saying you have an open belt dry primary?

Yeah, I am confused too. Belt primary leaking primary fluid???

Maybe he meant he converted to belt final drive, if that is the case, what he is describing is quite possible an inner primary bearing going bad trans main bearing going bad or inner race moved. I have personally experienced the inner race moving.

I am Having the same problem on my 2003 Dyna Super Glide, and Iam trying to figure out a probable cause before I start tearing stuff up. Attached is a pic of where its leaking from, which is the front pulley of my Karata Primary belt/unit.

Front pulley....

Unless you've got oil migrating to that location from a leak at another location, it sure looks like a crank seal.
