Angry FXR 5-6 Speed conversion issue

Hi , I've just built a new transmission for my FXR, using a Delkron case and and a 6 speed gear set,I removed from a new Ultima softail 6 SPD. All the parts fitted together, nice and easy (retro-fit)
BUT ----Once I tried to install the clutch,, I found the mainshaft is 4mm short than the original and the clutch/chain hit the inner primary, Is my mainshaft an oddball length or is ultima a different length to OEM.

What year is your FXR? Did you call Ultima?

The bike is an FXR Superglide that I bought new in 1989,
I did the conversion so I can use a late model splined centre clutch ,The old clutch couldnt handle the power of my new 131" engine
The new gearbox I bought was from a USA ebay store, I guess it must have been a factory reject ,sold cheap on Ebay,
I have done this conversion before to a few of our customers bikes and all worked perfectly.Except MINE
In the mean time I have turned up two 4mm spacers one to move the hub out to give me the correct clearance between the chain and the inner primary, and the other spacer takes up the gap created between the nut/hub and mainshaft.
I quess I should have bought a Baker or TP transmission instead of building the delkron case and ultima 6spd combo

Cheap isnt always good!---
I bought my new trans from a USA ebay seller ,and the cost to send it back to the US and have a replacement sent was cost prohibitive, Had I bought the part from an Australian seller, I could have inserted it in them and got my money back or demanded one that was'nt junk.
Lesson learnt= %&*@, EBAY !

I have bought stacks of 'safe' stuff on US Ebay over the years, but won't buy stuff I am not prepared to throw away if it ain't right. Sad to say this looks like a real bastard mix of parts I'm afraid. Any joy making it all work?

Thread Necromancy but this may help someone.

I have the same interference issue described below (I copied my post from elsewhere for convenience) and given that Delkron have a great rep and my problem duplicated I expect it might be the transmissions but that any trans issue is not a defect but a little known difference. My FXLR box ran fine and I installed the Delkron inner primary because the stocker was cracked which I noticed when replacing my final drive pulleys. My 1997 box which unlike the FXLR I've not ridden is via Ebay and not rebuilt.

Delkron D5030 vs 1994 and 1997 stock clutch basket adventures. I failed to notice primary chain drag on assembling my (otherwise stock primary drive) 1994 FXLR using a D5030 Delkron inner primary. It appeared the only difference between the D5030 (1989-1993) and the later special order D5045 was the screw pattern for the outer primary cover. I tapped the two differing holes to use my FXLR outer and bought a 1993-style OEM outer cover for my other installation.

Rode FXLR several hundred miles and on inspection noticed dark primary lube with aluminum chips so I pulled the primary drive. The chain had grooved the inner primary casting as shown in pic. Primary drive alignment and chain tension was correct.

I then inspected my unfinished 1988 which I used another D5030 to install a 1997 bagger trans and it drags there too.

Net result, stock 1994 and 1997 clutch baskets vs D5030 = interference. I emailed Delkron this afternoon (awaiting response) but see no reason I can't mill the needed clearance and reinstall. I asked if there are any differences between D5030 and D5045 special order primaries besides the cover bolt pattern.

Will post results but I suggest anyone using the D5030 to convert to a later-than-1993 transmission check clearance between chain and inner primary behind clutch basket if you have one, and not to order one for that purpose unless Delkron says it's kosher. I'd never heard of this problem but such is life.

There is plenty of metal so my tentative plan is mill sufficient chain clearance and press on.

What Delkron part number have other forum members used with which baskets?
EDIT:
Found out from the very helpful Thermodyne on vtwinforum that the 1994 FXRs had a casting number change as well as a part number change. I'll try to find out the differences.
