Default Shift lever slipped off the trany (TURQUE?)

Shift lever slipped off the trany , I have it off and inspecting the spline on the trany and lever .. Both look fine . It appears the Allan head bolt had backed off just enuf for the lever to slide off. I'm headed to the auto parts for a new bolt and red loctite .. My question is , what do I torque the bolt down to ? I can just see me giving it hell and the head pops off . I know I should have a service manual !

Thanks

Get a grade 8 bolt. Get it tight. Some guys hacksaw the space where the lever is pulled together by the bolt (put it in a vise and squeeze it until the space is closed and then hacksaw it, which makes the space a little bigger, allowing the bolt to pull it tighter on the shaft (I hope that makes sense).

Not sure I'd use RED Loctite. That stuff is permenant. Maybe use BLUE Loctite just in case you ever want to remove/adjust the shifter. Just a suggestion.

Dan89 Yes that makes good sense , I have not found the bolt just yet , I live in a small town so I'll be going to the city today ! the bolt is an odd size, M8 1.0 pitch all I can find around here is M8 1.25 pitch.. while in the city I'm going to buy a new lever at the Dealer so I will Have the old one to do what you recommend .. Thanks for the tip , I bet thats going to work great

HDMikie I bought some red but like you say I better use the blue ! 30 miles from the house when it fell off I was ready to use JB Weld ! I could put it back on but I could not tighten it , so running stops and red lights I made it just fine

Thanks
