Default thick grey oil

Ok, I have a 90 fxsts eco, 5 speed. Been sitting 3 years. I finally got it running yesterday, took it for a test ride. Only about 1 mile. I saw I had thick grey oil on the belt, belt guard, and the rear wheel. Is this something to expect after sitting so long? Or do I need to change seals?

Before you can say what is wrong, you have to determine where the oil is coming from.

First thing to do is check the breather hose, to see if that is where the oil is coming from. The breather hose originates on the lower right side of the crankcase, just inboard of the oil pump. Where is the other end of this hose routed?

I agree it is most likely oil is coming from the breather hose. Happens very often especially a bike sitting for that long. Run the bike and get it hot to thin out the oil, then change all the fluids. You may have to change the engine oil a couple of times to fully flush out all the old fluids.

Ok, after a couple cans of degreaser. A flashlight and mirror. I have found that the oil is coming from the inner primary seal.

Oh yeah... I forgot to mention that the breather is on the right side also.
