Default Accidental shift without clutch?

I had my brand new Ultra parked in the driveway idling. I got on to pull it in the driveway and hit the shift lever into first. It abruptly surged forward, left a black rubber mark from the rear tire and stalled. Did I do any damage???

No. Well, other than to your pride.

Motorcycle transmissions aren't the same as the ones in cars. Believe it or not, you can shift it up and down while you're riding without using the clutch. Not recommended unless you're skilled, or in an emergency, but you won't damage it.

Thanks...huge relief! I have had the worst luck since I got it. My wife talked me into this huge beast and it has been quite a handful, to include dropping it once. I really didn't need to think I had possibly done some damage to the transmission/gears. Thanks for the quick response!

Whenever you get on the bike, pull the clutch in and then make sure what gear you are in. I don't know about the new ones, but on my '03, you can hit the starter and if in gear the bike will move.
I wouldn't ride 2up until you feel comfortable on the bike, which could be a while.
Be careful!

I did that at a light, I was a little careless putting my foot back on the boards and kicked it into gear. Plus, I shift from time to time without the clutch so I can hold my beer.

Just kidding of course.
