Ride Report: Trip to Hwy 191-AZ
Just finished up our trip to western New Mexico/Eastern Arizona. Due to the weather, we ended up having to do a little juggling and were not able to see everything we had hoped. But all in all any road trip is a good road trip as long as everyone returns home safely. Here are some photos of the trip with brief descriptions, I am not a photographer by any means so go easy.
Leaving our house, we headed up Interstate 37 north to Hwy 90 going west. Stayed the first night in Alpine, Texas. Total trip was right around 3200 miles over 7 days. The return trip was wet, over 3 hours in pouring rain makes for a long day.
This was taken on day 2, Hwy 152 in New Mexico. Rode this going and coming, it is a great ride. In my opinion it was even better than 191.
78 between 180 and 191. This is a another great road to ride, it has some fun switchbacks and curves. Halfway it crosses from NM to AZ.
Here is my lovely riding partner freezing her butt off. We rode the loop 180 to Alpine, AZ and down 191. In Alpine it was 40 degrees F, 5 miles south on 191 the sky opened up and poured rain for the next 30 miles coming down. We were soaked before finding a place to pull off and get suited up. This part of the trip really sucked.
The rest of the photos are just places we stopped along the way.
And here is what the bike looked like before getting cleaned up. Far from showroom fresh, but this is what riding is all about.

Thanks for sharing those pictures...it looks like you all had some good riding, despite the wet. Someday I would love to get out to the southwest and travel around a bit on two wheels. It looks as though you stopped at White Sands, among other places?
I love that white Road King, by the way...very nice looking machine.

I really enjoyed 152, I found it very comparable in quality (both ride and road condition) to most roads around the Smokies. 191 was a fine ride, but it is obvious that it falls very low on the states priority list for expenditures.

The roads will be there when you are ready, you have to take care of family first. Hopefully your son has a speedy recovery.
