There is an all day"Ride to the Sky" bikes only
to the top of Mt Washington (over 6000"elevation)
I live in NH and I have yet to make it to the top on a clear day.
If you do it early enough, you can make it back and ride the Veterans run that ends in Center Harbor for a Candle Light Vigil.
This is the run that shuts down Weirs Beach boardwalk for the 600+ bikes to ride thru.
This Candle light vigiltakes place every Thursday of every week and is the longest running Viet Nam POW/MIA Candle Light vigil in the whole nation. I'll try to find the flyer and post it for those that would like to know.

I climbed Mt. Wash on a BMW with my future bride many years ago. I hope they fixed that road since then. Too long ago to be of any help to you but the view was spectacular. The BMW was a great bike, now I have a hog. The future bride was spectacular, now I have a hog.

Having zero touring experience I think the biggest issue will be overheating on the way up the mountain. Hopefully road speeds and temps. will prevent overheating. The descent should be easy enough with engine braking.

I've done it twice; on my FXST during bike week and last fall on the DR650.
The only real concern I had were a few hairpin turns that left me wondering how in H*ll guys made it to the top on kicked out choppers!
I probably wouldn't do it again on bikes only day; too many bikers trying to make it into a race....its more fun on a slow day, when you have the road to yourself and can take time to enjoy it.
Bring extra clothing! Go up the steps to the buildings on top; cool stuff to see.
If coming by way of the Kanc, take Bear Notch road to avoid the mess in North Conway. If you do go into North Conway, the Muddy Moose has best food....if you ride the kanc, Truants has good food in Lincoln/Woodstock area.
I've got a bunch of photos, will try to post a few later.....
