Default Favorite route from Sturgis to Yellowstone?

Whats your favorite route from Sturgis to Yellowstone? I could go up I-90 to 14 then into Cody and up into YS. Anybody get off at Buffalo and take 16 thru Worland and Greybull into Cody? What the most scenic route? Whats your favorite 14 0r 16? Any other way besides dropping way south and coming up thru Jackson?

Both are fine rides over the Bighorns. If I had to choose one it would be 16 out of Buffalo and through the Ten Sleep Canyon.

Or you could run 212 west out of belle fouche sd thru the grasslands past the little big horn battlefield. Then run 90w thru billings back to 212 into red lodge mt and stay the nite there. take the Beartooth hwy into Yellowstone. You can ride thru Yellowstone then run the chief Joseph hwy back into Cody and 14/14a back over the bighorns and 90 e back to sturgis.

If I'd have been smarter I could of done that. But I made reservations the next night after we are leaving Sturgis in cody. Spending 3 days around Yellowstone and the 1 night back in Sturgis. Then heading home back to the grindstone.
Thanks for the replies. I may try 16 out of Buffalo. If your ever in Buffalo eat at the Dash Inn. The rib plate made me homesick it was so good.

Last year we took 16 out of Buffalo through Ten Sleep on our way to Cody. And 14a on our way back. We liked 14 better. It may have been the weather though. It was about 95' and a head wind all day. My wife told me later that when got to Worland she wanted to cry it was so miserable. Both routs were very nice.

That rib plate at the Dash Inn in Buffalo is awesome and huge. We will be stopping there in August. I have been the 16 route, I guess I need to take the 14 route this time.

Just outside of Ten Sleep there's a back road that takes you to Manderson. Nice short cut to Cody.

My favorite is 34/24 by Devils Tower, 14s down to Moorcroft, i90w to Gillette, then 14/16 n, then 14 to Sheridan. i90 to Ranchester, 14w to Burgess jct, then ALT14 over the Bighorn mnts. into Cody. ZFrom Cody 120n to 296 ( chief Joseph) goes to 212 (Beartooth). Left on 212 is towards Yellowstones Tower jct entrance and to the right is the awesome ride over towards Redlodge.

We did 14 through the Big Horns. That might have been the prettiest ride of our whole trip. My routes are on my website if you want to see. Go to my Trips page and then at the bottom click on trip #13 Black Hills to see my routes in that part of the country.

From Cody you can go north on 120 until it intersects 296 which is Chief Joseph's Hwy. It's pretty awesome also. When it gets to 212 you can go west through Cooke City into Yellowstone or go east on 212 over to Red Lodge over Beartooth Pass. That's quiet a ride.

I like flhxkiller's route. Been on some of those roads, they look nice, if you got the time. 14A across Big Horn Mt range is a beautiful route, as s 14 from Cody to Yellowstone.
