Default Coudersport, PA to State College

A small group of us will be riding from the Rochester, NY area to the York, PA plant to take the tour.

What is the best route through all the State forest to take in the scenery and still make ok time? Not looking to do 70, just don't want to be going all that way at 25, is there a happy medium? Recomendations????

From coudersport take a look at 872 south to 120 east then 144 down to 322 then 74 right into York. Or you can run 322 down 81 north to 83 south and into York. The first idea pretty much avoids the main highways and is a nice ride, I run most of that a couple times a year heading to my cabin in Coudersport. 322 to 81 and then 83 can get pretty congested during rush hour.

Yup. This. I live 40 miles east of Coudersport. 872's a nice ride. 120's even nicer. Then 144 south from Renovo. When you get down to 220, you'll see the signs to State College. By the way, when 872 ends at 120, turn right, go about a hundred years, and pull into The Willows for a burger. Then enjoy the ride on 120 east to Renovo.

Just came up 44 this weekend from Jersey Shore its a little rough when you cross the potter county line, we cut off and then ran 144 into Galeton and that was good. Was talking to a guy at the Black Forest Inn and he claims they will be resurfacing 44 from route 6 to the Lycoming county line. It could use it

I rode rt 44 last year. It's a Pennsylvania road. I didn't think it was unridable at all though.

144 is a brand new road between Galeton & Carter Camp. Then 44/144 isn't bad at all for the next 8 or 10 miles before they split apart again. I've been on 144 continuing down to Renovo & it was fine. Haven't been on 44 from there down to Waterville, in quite awhile.

Hey Rolling Thunder --- In your PM, I think I told you 44 out of Galeton was newly paved. Actually 44 runs out of Coudersport. Sorry about that. It's 144 out of Galeton that has been paved. Last time I was on 44 out of Coudersport, it was a little rough, but not bad at all. You'll be OK on 44.

From Rochester Ny, Try going throw the finger lakes area, maybe Rt. 20 to 14 into Elmira, from there pick up 17 to Painted post, then Rt15, stay on 15 till Harrisburg then 83 ( lots of traffic on 83 but only 30 miles or so) to 30E
