Default FLH-80 wheel fitment question

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help me!! I have a 1978 FLH-80 that has spoke wheels. I want to replace them with the 16 spoke mag wheels. I found some on E-bay that came off a 1981 FLH.
Will these wheels fit on my 1978?? There seems to be a lot of different wheels in that time period and I can't find much info. on the internet!! I want to change the wheels because I just bought a sidecar for the bike and I want to match the wheels!! Thanks for your help!!

They work Fine...If they are from an FLH, and you put them on an FLH...
FLT note the "T",, are different on rear... enough to be a No-Go!
I like the "turbine wheels" and think they are the berries...especially if they match the "Car".

The 1981 wheel was new to the 1981 model year, and the axle in the 1981 front wheel has been out since the 1979 model year. Your 1978 axle is from the 1973 to 1980 era, so there is some overlap.

What I would guess is that both front axles are 3/4" and worst case scenario you might need to put 1981 fork legs with the 1979 axle in order to get that 1981 wheel installed correctly. (You still with me here ? )

If it were mine, I'd just get the wheel first and see how my 1978 axles fit up to it.

Hope that helps !

I was hoping that was the case. (Having never done it, I didn't want to give him any false hopes.)

my 1981 FLT wheels are completly different than the FLHT wheels - the FLT wheels that are 1980 and 1981 ONLY - and are very special

THE FRONT HAS A BALL BEARING ON ONE SIDE AND A TIMKIN # 9116 ON THE OTHER --

THE REAR HAS 2 TAPERED WHEELS BEARINGS on ONE SIDE THAT FACE EACH OTHER AND A TIMKIN # 9116 LIKE A CAM BEARING ON THE OTHER

reason only 2 years they $uck

While I don't have nor have access to, an flt, The HT seems pretty straight forward...why would the "T" front be different??
I don't get it...I know the rear is different...due to the Enclosed chain.

Thanks for all the quick responses!! I think I will go for it. The listing is for wheels off an FLH and mines an FLH so they should work!! It would be nice to find some sort of wheel fitment chart that listed what wheels fit what bikes!!

As said before, I would go for it too. I believe the only thing to watch will be the alignment (which will probably be OK anyway,) and there are spacers available to adjust that if needed.
