new to shovelheads.
My rocker box o-rings are shot and are leaking. Can I change them without causing any problems to my rocker arms?
I hear the rocker arms will fall and then have problems trying to install the bolt and new o-ring. is this true? please advise.

Just use a allen to remove the nut, there is a washer behind it and use a pick to remove the o-ring. Should have no problems.

I have made a tool that allows the rocker shafts to be removed from both shovels and ironheads. You do not need to remove the shaft to get the seal out though...just as W-FUZ wrote...

No problem removing the cap and replacing the o-rings without the rockers falling...removing the caps without an impact is sometimes difficult because the rocker shafts will spin and the cap will not loosen.

i would not put the o ring back in - they make a nylon square seal that seals way better and when the boxes have been polished or chomed the face material has been thinned causing the o ring in some cases to be exposed - the nylon fixes all of this
