Default engine and transmission oil change....

ok,, I'm old and have CRS, and I'm good with that!
so need a little help understanding what I found yesterday.

book says = 4 quarts engine oil...
84 FLH 80 says = tank overflowed at 3.5 ?
siphoned a bit out, now show between the lines on the stick, sitting on the side stand. And yes this is after I cranked it and let the oil circulate. It has the small spin on oil filter.
..
book says = 1.5 quarts tranny oil.
FLH 80 says = overflow at 1.0 quart.
again bike sitting on the side stand.
(only drained out about 1/2 quart ?)
I guess the level is good if I can see it (while sitting on the side stand)?

Obviously I'm gonna do what the bike says and not follow the book specs, but just wondering why the BIG difference.

As always, appreciate the help.

the correct level for the engine and trans is not only HOT but standing straight up right just like you are driving it

drive it for 45 min than set it u right and the oil tank no more than the max mark on the stick

trans should be with the bike up right the level is at the bottom of the threads

the oil grows in the tank and trans between the cold level and the hot level if you have too much it will leak from the motors vent -- and the trans vent -- this is the correct way to check the oils HOT not cold
