Default Question about oil level

I change my oil lastnight and only got 3 quarts.

I usually change my own oil and typically just add 3.5 quarts. After I let the Dealership do the 1000 mile service, I checked the oil level with the engine cold on the jiffy stand and it was at the bottom of the marks. I check the oil level about every 500 miles and it stayed steady on the lowest mark.

I assumed the dealership replaced my oil with at least three quarts, but now I don't think so. But can you guys tell me how much oil you have in the crankcase and where that sits on your dipstick?

One other note is I read here that if you start the engine for 3 seconds after you drain the oil, you will get another half quart. I am switching from dyno oil to synthetic and wanted to get as much of the old oil as possible. So I put another pan under the bike and ran it for three seconds. I got exactly 16 ounces more oil in the pan. Adding that gave me the three quarts.

I added 3.5 quarts of Mobil 1 back into the crankcase.

I like to check mine when it is hot and on the jiffy stand. I think that's what most manuals recommend. Also did you warm up the engine prior to draining it ? Even though it makes things a little warm to the touch you need to do that to make the oil drain better.

Yes, I warmed it up before draining. I started readiing my oil levell cold on my 02 RK because I never seem to get a constant reading when it was hot. I'm surprised that so many folks add four quarts. I get oil coming out of the breather when I added the full four.

What about the oil filter, I hope you replaced it. I would assume you did but it wasn't mentioned.
