Default 12v or 6v battery on 99 Fatboy

Hi everyone. Just bought my first Harley. A 99 Fatboy with an S&S carb. Having great difficulties. Bought the full manual and saw that the book calls for a 12 volt 18 amp battery but the bike has a 6v. Is this the reason for my starting difficulties?

Are you measuring 6 volts? If so, your battery is toast, buy a new 12 volt battery!

Any chance you could take a picture of that 6V battery?

1964 DuoGlide Panhead was the last 6V Harley.
