Default Getting new tires

Looking more and more like I'm gonna get Avons. Have had them on my sportsters for years and they handle like glue, plus I've heard horror stories about the 200mm D407 wearing at like 6000 miles. Bike currently has a D401 which are too hard for my tastes.

On my sportster I'm running a 90/90-21 on the front which is a bit wider then the MH-90, was wondering if I should run this on my custom too?
