Default Long Lasting tires

Who has had experience with long lasting tires? When I had my sportbike I would rock michelin pilot road 2 and would get 16k miles out of them before replacement. What tires available for the sportster will get high millage while still giving good performance?

Anyone know where what site has the best prices on tires?

Longest lasting tires I've ever run on a HD are the Michelin Commanders. I like the performance also...I have run stickier tires, but also gotten far less miles out of them.

Sounds good... The factory sizes on my sporty are mh90/21 and mt90/16. Im pretty sure that they are the same as 80/90/21 and 130/90/16... There seems to be a backorder right now for the commander II in 130/90/16. Would it be bad to go with 140 /90/16 instead? Also should I stick with 80/90/21 or go with 90/90/21?

I just purchased a set of Michelin Commander IIs for my Nightster, 150/80B16 & 100/90B19, from revzilla.com for $240 shipped. I always use revzilla because I've never had a problem with them, they have a great price matching online tool, they don't charge tax to NY, they have free shipping over $40, their return policy is good, and their customer service is great.

Its seems like these are the best tires for the sportster according to reviews, so I went with them. I ran Michelin Pilot Power 3s on my sport bike and they were great. Can't go wrong with Michelin!

I wouldn't use an 80/90 on the front, but a 90/90. You don't say what model and year bike you have, so check clearances between your current tyre and the belt/chain or guard especially. You need about 3/8" clearance to fit a 140/90 or 140/85. Bear in mind that fitted tyre widths can be quite different to the size they claim to be - I have a 160 which is 167mm wide, just over 1/4" wider than it says it is.

Need more info on the bike year/model. Since you list the rear as a 130, I assume it's a 2003 or older.

The correct size for the rear is indeed 130/90, as an alternative to an MT. Take care while doing so (for sharp edges!). but if you can run a finger around everywhere the tyre comes close to something else, such as fender, belt/guard etc, then a 140/85 or 140/90 should fit. 140/85 isn't so common as the 140/90, but is the same rolling diameter as a 130/90 - the 140/90 is slightly larger.

I just want to know what kind of sportbike can go 16,000 miles between tires? the average sport bike I've ever seen needs a rear about every 6.,000 miles.

about 10,000 is the most I've ever gotten out of a set.. Michelins are a good combo of wear & performance, and look good too. but I wouldn't say they are the best out there.

Dunlop just came out with Dunlop elites which are dual compounds. I'm having a set o those put on my wide glide now & hope this tire is going to last a very long time.. because I'll do about 15,000 miles this summer commuting. I know there are some other manufacturers making dual compound tires now too.. the Michelins might be..

the Michelins are nice because you get a lot of solid rubber in that tread design that makes them last.

if money was not an object I'd go with Pirelli night dragons or Avon's. the night dragons are such a cool looking tire but I'm just afraid it would wear out faster since I ride so much highway miles.
